"The snow crunches underfoot, but otherwise it is quiet as the camp manager at Husodde Strand Camping in Horsens, René Kofoed, shows around the site. Even the birds are silent, only their different tracks criss-crossing in all the white reveals them."
The quote is from journalist Søren Flott from Jyllandsposten who visited us back in 2010, there was lots of snow all over the square.
Husoddde Strand Camping has since become Horsens City Camping, but winter camping is still available in Horsens. Winter camping is completely different from summer camping, here it is the peace and quiet that counts. One of our year-round campers remarks "It is so beautiful here when the snow is on all the trees", her husband states in agreement "and when we are out walking , we can see the tracks of the animals. There are both hares and pheasants strutting around."
Why Winter Camping?
Winter camping can be a fantastic opportunity to get away from everyday life and enjoy nature in a completely new atmosphere. First of all, winter offers a unique opportunity to experience the silence and tranquility of nature. Without the hustle and bustle of summer, you get a much more peaceful camping experience, where you can enjoy snowy landscapes and frosty mornings in almost total silence. It allows you to relax and really enjoy the beautiful nature without distractions.
Here you will get a guide to winter camping for beginners, so you can set off safely and get the most out of the experience.
Another good reason to choose winter camping is the unique nature experience. Winter's changing weather conditions and the longer nights create a special atmosphere where you can experience animal tracks in the snow, ice-covered lakes and maybe even a beautiful, clear starry sky without light pollution. This type of camping is perfect for those who appreciate the beauty of nature in all its wintry splendor and want to take a break from the hectic everyday life.
Finally, winter camping is an ideal choice for those looking for a more active holiday. Even though it is colder, the winter landscape invites a wide range of activities, such as hiking in frosty forests, snowball fights or simply enjoying a hot cup of tea by a fire after a day out in the fresh air. Winter camping is a different, but incredibly cozy and rewarding alternative to traditional holidays.
Vacancy calendar Winter camping
Below you can see when you can come winter camping with us.
Select the desired dates and start your booking.
Service building warm and open all winter
We have invested in new roads and drainage throughout the winter area. For our winter guests, we keep the service building at the eastern end of the square open and warm all winter, so that you can have a bath without "freezing your toes".
Our large cabins are also open all year round.
Snow removal and work on the site
We clear snow to the extent necessary and salt around the buildings, but we try to avoid salting the roads and instead use gravel, sand and other materials, so that we do not damage nature and the grass.
We have worked for many years to renovate the entire campsite and of course also the area we must use for winter camping. we therefore today have several types of pitches to use as winter pitches, both with a view over the fjord, with peace and quiet and pitches only 10 m from the service building, all for the guests who come and just stay with us for a few days during the winter.
In winter, we will also limit driving on the grass areas, so that we can keep track of the grass areas and therefore we only allow driving on roads and designated parking areas. We naturally hope for our guests' understanding that we want to avoid the problems we have had with deep tracks in the grass and the a lot of mud. We will continually lay sand on the ground to improve it. along with grass seeds.
If the winter turns green and wet, it is, however, completely impossible for us to keep the mud away. So if there is no frost, the grass can become very soft and muddy. Rubber boots are recommended.
There may also be other work on the site, but this will mainly occur on weekdays.
The kiosk, mini golf and the pool are closed, but we sell gas at the reception.
We look forward to welcoming you as winter guests at Horsens City Camping
